How to Store Natural Skin and Hair Products and Know When They Expire

Natural does not mean forever. Herbal products can change if stored badly. A few habits keep them fresh and safe.
Where to keep them
- Cool, dry place away from direct sun.
- Not in a steamy bathroom shelf.
- Lids tightly closed.
Good habits
- Use clean, dry hands or a spoon, not wet fingers in a jar.
- Do not dilute products with water.
- Note the opening date on the pack.
Signs to stop using
A sour or rancid smell, change in colour, mould or separation that does not mix again. Throw it away.
Hair oils
Oils like Amla & Rosemary Hair Oil last longest when kept closed and cool. Always check the date printed on your pack.

Why natural products need care
Products made with fewer synthetic preservatives can change faster in heat, light and moisture. A bottle left on a sunny window or a jar opened with wet fingers will not last as long as one stored well.
- Close lids tightly after every use.
- Keep jars away from steam.
- Do not mix water into oils or creams.
- Write the date you opened a pack on it.
When in doubt
If a product smells different, changes colour or has mould, do not use it. It is not worth the risk.
Frequently asked questions
Can I keep products in the bathroom?
Steam and heat shorten shelf life. A cool cupboard is better.
Does natural mean no expiry?
No. All products have a shelf life.
Can I use a product after the date?
It is safer not to.
Quick takeaway
Cool, dry, closed and clean. If the smell or colour changes, throw it away.
